What to know when getting pregnant after 40

Women today due to the pressures and stress that life brings have the risk of not able to get married and not having a child at the right age.  This is because women are more into tending themselves first through work, studies, etc.  They do not think of settling down first due to the challenges that of the above mentioned priorities in life.

When they decide that they would like to settle down and have a family, most women are already in their 30’s and when they still don’t get pregnant because they want to first spend some years with their partner first before having children, they end up getting pregnant after 40 and things start to get complicated for them.

Biologically, the woman’s body is not really intended to get her first pregnancy during her 40’s.  Women of this age will start to have those challenges of getting fertile and having healthy eggs versus women who are in their 20’s.  There are a lot of successful pregnancies with no complications and everything normal that took place with a lot of women already all over the world when they reached their 40’s.  It only showed in survey stats that a lot of women as well, in their 40’s, faced higher risks of getting fertile and having other complications versus the younger women.

Here are some options that you need to check within yourself so you can find out if your biological condition is still very capable in getting pregnant after 40 years old.  You can check your egg supply so that the success in getting pregnant will still be high.  Women in their puberty stage have a lot of eggs that are produced which amounts to 400,000 yet women in their 40’s, due to the reduction of a great number of eggs yearly have less than 10% of what they used to have during puberty.  Since being within the 40’s is a part of menopause stage, you have to start trying to conceive so you can have that slim chance of bearing a child.

You have to watch out as well that when getting pregnant after 40 you need to find out if the quality of your eggs are still fine and not defective.  Because if they are, then they can cause genetic abnormalities of the child being born.

Miscarriages can take place as well if you conceive during your 40’s due to your internal organs are not as healthy as they used to be during your 20’s.  Risk of having a down syndrome child or with a birth defect is also a big possibility that can happen.
