Conception is one of the happiest reasons to celebrate for. Although many couples can easily have a child; not ever encountering a problem with it, there is still a big percentage of the population who have difficulties in getting pregnant. Studies prove that the numbers of having problems getting pregnant have increased dramatically for the past twenty years.
There are many identified reasons that cause problems getting pregnant. Fertility treatments vary to address those problems with the help of a fertility specialist. A grasp of these causes can help you understand, prevent, treat or deal with the problems of getting pregnant easily. Factors include the irregular or absence of periods or menstrual cycle, trauma or infection, timing of intercourse and sperm problems.
An absence or irregular periods can be a main cause of infertility. You can have problems of getting pregnant because irregular periods may mean that a woman is not ovulating. This may be because of a hormonal imbalance. It is advised that if a woman is having an irregular or absence of menstrual cycle she should see a gynecologist or a reproductive endocrinologist. Irregular periods can also be caused by an underactive thyroid or overactive thyroid glands. PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome can also cause absence or irregular periods. These symptoms can be treated when diagnosed by gynaecologist or fertility doctor.
Another reason that causes problems of getting pregnant is if the fallopian tube is blocked due to some scarring from past infections or trauma. Although a woman ovulates regularly or intercourse is on time, fertilization will not take effect because of these barriers. Another cause is the absence of vas deferens for some males. It means that sperm cannot be ejaculated because of the absence of this duct. These can cause infertility.
When you are trying to get pregnant, sexual intercourse should be just right in time. You need to have sex if you are fertile (for women). You need to time your ovulation so you will know if you are fertile. For women who have regular menstrual cycle, they ovulate at day 14. Having sexual intercourse daily with your partner at this time may increase the chances of getting pregnant. Determining ovulation can be done by taking your basal body temperature, observing your cervical mucus and using an ovulation predictor kit that you can buy at any local pharmacies.
Sperm problems such as low sperm quality and quantity are also reasons that you have problems of getting pregnant. Many of the men today have low sperm count and low sperm motility. This problem can be associated with their unhealthy lifestyle, usually due to smoking and alcohol intake. Sperm analysis can be done. A normal semen analysis should have 20 million sperm per milliliter and 50 percent of which should have good motility and 30 percent of which should have normal morphology. Men can see a urologist if there are underlying medical problems seen from semen analysis.
